According to information from the Festival, students from several European countries organized a party in an apartment, in the center of Thessaloniki, at a time when the city is affected by the coronavirus.
Toumba-Triandria department police couldn’t believe their eyes when the door of the apartment where the party was taking place was opened. Young men and women, almost all without masks and without keeping their distance, had fun like nothing. Some danced in the rooms, while others had their drink on the balcony. Loud music, laughter, and voices forced the neighbors to call 100. The patrol crew that arrived on Velissariou Street late Friday night to investigate the neighbors’ complaint “fell” on party with a score of guests. Most of them are French or Spanish, who are in Thessaloniki through the Erasmus student exchange program.
Coronavirus arrests and fines
Police proceeded to arrest the two young occupants of the apartment, who are said to be the organizers of the party as well. Each was fined 3,000 euros. Guests were fined for violating the traffic restriction and a separate fine for those who did not wear a mask. A case was filed against the two detainees for violating the law for the protection of public health and disturbing public order. They will be brought before the competent prosecutor’s office within the day.
