According to information from iefimerida.gr, a decision was made to close primary schools across Greece.

According to the same information, the closure of elementary schools will take effect from next Monday.

Elementary schools are not a hotbed of the coronavirus, however this decision was made, according to information from iefimerida.gr, to reduce the mobility of parents. As soon as elementary school children do their homework online, on the one hand, travel to and from schools will stop, and on the other hand, more parents will go to work and thus mobility will be greatly reduced .

There is no information yet on what to do with daycare centers, kindergartens and daycare centers.

In fact, according to information from iefimerida.gr, in a school in West Attica, teachers gave children the second numbers of textbooks for some subjects, and told parents that as of Monday the schools will be closed .

Professor Athanasios Exadaktylos had insisted since morning on the need to close all schools, while the mayor of the city, Konstantinos Zervas, had called for the closure of primary schools in Thessaloniki. Yesterday, Aris Skertsos had left open the possibility of closing schools.

How will elementary schools work now?

The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, said on Thursday that the ministry, since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, has been guided by the guidance of the scientific committee and that it is prepared for the possibility of a generalized “closure” in schools. .

The plan that has already been drawn up -but it cannot be ruled out that it may be modified even in the next few hours- provides two tools to avoid interrupting the educational process in “closed” schools:

  • Educational television, since more than 220 lessons have been videotaped from scratch and a library has been built on the voluntary offer of teachers, which will be carried out in collaboration with ERT to broadcast educational episodes.
  • Distance education.

The Ministry of Education announced yesterday that it has provided “65,965 mobile devices worth more than 20 million euros through the NSRF, and 25,648 mobile devices worth more than 4 million euros through donations” for students and teachers , in order to facilitate e-learning.
