Incredible naval tragedy στα Adana from Turkey when 4 of the 5 Turkish fishermen on board the fishing boat “Polatbey”, which collided with the Greek oil tanker “EPHESUS”, were taken out dead.
The rescue teams that have been in the area since dawn (the accident occurred at 4:52 am), recovered 4 bodies while the search for the fate of the fifth missing person continues.
The Greek tanker was carrying 27 crew members, including thirteen Greeks, while the exact number of passengers on the capsized fishing vessel has not been determined so far.
The chronicle of the tragedy
The Greek tanker was sailing 37 nautical miles from Mersin, when under unclear circumstances it collided with the fishermen’s boat.
The 20-meter boat capsized and immediately gave the alarm signal. Floating boats rushed to the aid of “Polatbey” while a few minutes later rescue teams arrived at the scene.
It should be noted that only the Turkish rescue forces can operate at this point.
What is the ship “EPHESUS”
The “EPHESUS” tanker sails under the Greek flag and was built in 2012. Its length is 273 meters and its width is 50 meters. The maximum speed of the tanker is 11 knots.
