Calls to the Fire Department
The Fire Department received about 500 calls for help, more than 30 people were rescued from the turbulent waters and flooded homes and businesses.
Most of the firefighting operations were carried out in the wider area of the Hersonissos municipality, where the weather was most intense.
From this morning until now the fire department has received 400 calls for pumping water as well as 25 rescues of people, mainly in the areas: Hersonissos, Anissaras, Gouves, Gournes, Analipsi, Stalis and Malia.
In addition, the Rethymnon Fire Service has received 70 calls for water pumps, while 7 people have been transported to safety.
It should be noted that by order of the Head of PS. Lieutenant General Stefanos Kolokouris, the fire services of the Crete region have been placed under general surveillance.
“Declaration of Municipalities in a State of Emergency”

- Immediately declare a State of Civil Protection Emergency to the Municipalities affected by bad weather and have submitted the corresponding request.
