Particularly optimistic about coronavirus vaccine developments, Athena Linou appeared.
The EKPA professor of epidemiology, speaking on ERT’s “Connections” program, said that the Pfizer vaccine was not expected to be as effective as, she explained, its 90% effectiveness is very satisfactory.
He cited influenza vaccines as an example, which, he explained, are 60% to 70% effective.
The vaccine will be available to some in the spring of 2021.
Responding in this regard, he said that around 7,000,000 Greeks should be vaccinated to be safe against the virus.
As Ms. Linou said, front-line doctors and nurses will be vaccinated first, followed by vulnerable groups and the elderly.
Regarding the schedule, the epidemiology professor said that by spring 2021 the vaccine will be available only to some, which clearly implies that by then the general population will not have been vaccinated.
