Supermarket sales growth has stabilized at 9% since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period last year, with the second wave of the pandemic and the new lockdown keeping demand high.

According to data released by the research company IRI, in the week ending October 25, there was a 4.2% increase in turnover in organized food retail, reaching 119.99 million euros compared to the week corresponding to 2019 (which ended on 10/27), which was 115.1 million euros.
Market growth this week is largely due to the Attica market, which controls a 53.3% share and “ran” at a 5% rate.
The week ended October 25, according to IRI data, of the 340 categories of products sold within supermarket chains (excluding variable weight products), 168 were food (2% growth in sales), 41 products for the home (9.4% growth in sales in value), 45 personal hygiene products (growth in sales in value 1.6%) and 86 all others (growth in sales in value 19.7%).
