According to cretapost, municipal crews are already on the streets trying to open the roads and solve the problems.

The fire services in the wider area of Kasteli in the municipality of Minoa Pediados, as well as in the Meseta, have been put on alert, due to the floods, according to ekriti.gr.

As you can see from the Apostoloi photo, the fields have literally turned into a lake.

In Kastelli, the fire department received calls for the release of people, while in the volumes of water, a fire truck rushed to help. There is also information that running water washed away cars in the villages of Kardoulianos, Sklaverochori and Archangelos.

Torrential rain flooded many buildings, with the result that the Fire Department has received many calls to pump water from underground.

The image is similar on the plateau.

The impact of heavy rains on the Lassithi Plateau is great.

The problem is more acute in Kato Metochi where two houses have been filled with water, however the large family that lived in one of them had managed to get out to a safe place in time. Two vehicles from the local fire station rushed to the scene while three other vehicles came to the rescue from the Agios Nikolaos station.

The severe bad weather has also caused problems in vehicle traffic, since due to imported materials the road from Krasi has been closed. At the same time, the floods are intense in Tzermiado.

Indicative of the volume of rainwater that has fallen in the wider area is the fact that the water level of the Aposelemi dam has risen two meters since yesterday.

Problems also arose on the dam plain.

According to meteo.gr, the north winds and rains in Crete will continue at least until the beginning of next week.

These rains are largely due to strong winds from the north, which carry large amounts of moisture to the coasts and mountains of Crete. There they are forced to rise and condense, creating clouds that cause rain.

The same mechanism causes rains in other parts of the country, such as Evia, eastern Thessaly and central Greece. Due to this mechanism, the phenomena in Crete are expected to continue, according to the weather, as long as the strong north winds are maintained in the Aegean.
