It is true that when the game started, CSKA seemed capable of having the calmest night since they started visiting OAKA for the Euroleague. In fact, I just wanted to show that whatever happens to the end, it will determine the fate of the match. And no matter how many times Panathinaikos made its own (super) attempt to turn back, immediately the Russians pressed the accelerator and returned to a safety margin.

CSKA is on a different level than most teams in Europe, and much more so than this year’s Panathinaikos, which has nothing to do with the list from the past. Of course we have seen many times, especially in the Euroleague this year, strange results. In other words, surprises that come from the conditions that prevail in the stadiums, the lack of rhythm and everything that constitutes the consequences of the pandemic. But to surprise, the favorite must be in a very bad day and at the same time be indifferent …
Neither of them happened to CSKA. Not that I played for 40 minutes with the accelerator pressed, everything else was idling for most of the game. However, it never completely “shut down” the engine, so both times when the Panathinaikos returned, it immediately increased speed and with it the difference to double digit levels.
Such is the difference in the level of the two teams, the two rosters, that Claiborne did not even start the game and entered when he only had to do something else and end any hope of Panathinaikos to claim outright excess.
It is, therefore, a reality that the Panathinaikos is obliged to accept. In fact, he has known since the beginning of the season, no one on the greens is under any illusions. Obviously, the win over Fener at OAKA brought smiles, but no matter how we do it, CSKA is different and this year the Turkish team is different.
Even so, of course, it helped to make a game with nice phases, with many points and at least the neutral spectator so as not to get bored. Nedovic was excellent in the first half and showed that when he is healthy he can do great things on the court, White and Bohoridis remained at a decent level and perhaps the only discomfort for the greens was Sant Ross. CSKA played it in the 2 meters, the Cuban could not threaten from a distance and it is obvious that he cannot take a team to the Euroleague level. He may be a capable companion player, he may shoot one night, but in duration he is a specific skill playmaker.
THAT’S WHY HE TOOK MAC
The absence of a playmaker was and is obvious to Panathinaikos, which is why they added Selvin Mack to their roster. A taller point guard than Pierre Jackson and Kiefer Sykes, a clearly better player than his predecessors on this year’s roster. Of course, if Mac were against CSKA, the greens could get closer to victory, the difference of 6 points at the end was completely fictitious. However, in view of the continuation, the prospects for Panathinaikos are better, at least for matches with lower-level teams in the Euroleague. Somehow Nemanja Nedovic can find the help he is looking for in the region, which has quality moments at Panathinaikos, but it is not possible to win the really big teams in the tournament on your own.
As for CSKA? He’s not where he wants to be yet, he’s obviously looking for rhythm and of course as long as he’s dependent on Mike James he’ll have a lot of ups and downs too. The American seemed not in the mood, he had 3/10 shots, but this is James. Klaiburn is the most stable, Sengelia and Milutinov are still looking for his traces, which is why the Russian team has had three defeats so far.
And since Milutinov’s reason, at the moment it is not good. He spent the adventure with his health, he is not ready, but if the Serbian and Sengelia adapt and reach the highest level, then CSKA will claim the Euroleague title with many claims.
