The certainty that we will spend all winter with repeated lockdowns was expressed by EKPA Professor of Intensive Care Pulmonology, Theodoros Vasilakopoulos, speaking on SKAI and the HOY program, noting that citizen behavior will be banned in December.
“The blockade is a last resort that to be effective we must understand its need and participate in its implementation. To say that a government is doing everything possible to destroy the economy, but also the psychology of the people, is something that cannot happen. We can go all winter with repeat closings. This is definitely not the last as it will solve our problem for the next month. “Our behavior in December will determine when the next one will happen again,” the professor characteristically asserted.
He pointed out that the closure was necessary, because the health system has been pressured and the pandemic must be stopped, but by itself it is not enough. “Because the blockade must end one day, the government must find other scientists to get the message out to the world, because once the blockade is stopped, if the behavior of others does not change, we will talk about restrictions again,” he added .
According to Mr. Vasilakopoulos, the scientists had said that by the end of the first week of November, it would be judged whether the measures they had proposed and taken by the government were effective or not. “The measures were not bad, but their implementation rate was not correct,” he emphasized.
As for the coronavirus, he noted that it has mutated and shows that it has increased transmissibility and reduced mortality, while the lower the temperature, the more contagious it will become. “Half of the Greeks will have to be vaccinated for the virus to disappear, but we will have between 400,000 and 500,000 doses for vulnerable groups in the first period, when a vaccine is approved.”
