A four-year-old girl, who was buried alive under the rubble of a building when Friday’s strong earthquake struck western Turkey, was rescued today, four days later, according to the mayor of Izmir (Izmir) city and correspondents from the French Agency.
“It just came to our attention then. Rescue teams put four-year-old Aida alive” from the rubble, Izmir Mayor Tudz Soger said via Twitter.
According to AMPE, French Agency correspondents saw members of the rescue teams applauding the little girl amid the rubble of a building in the Bairakli suburb, which suffered the heaviest blow from the strong earthquake.
Hours earlier, the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) announced that the death toll from the earthquake had risen to 100, with another 994 people injured, 147 of whom were still in hospital.
