Complaint for police violence by MAT agents in Galatsi yesterday with the victim, among others, a 5-year-old boy.
According to the complaint, MAT forces raided a cafe in Galatsi, chasing a group of anti-authoritarians, beating a 5-year-old boy who was at the scene with his mother. A video posted on social media shows the events in the cafe as a woman is heard shouting “what are you doing?” to the men of MAT.
According to other complaints cited by the Avgi newspaper, another father who was in the cafe when the incidents broke out, had lifted his son in the air and shouted “I have my son, I have my son.” Police sources cited by the ethnos.gr website claim that the 5-year-old boy was not hit by a glop, but his throat was affected by the chemicals.

The incidents began when two rallies were held in the area at the same time, one by anti-authoritarians and the other by members of Kasidiaris’s party. The police had banned both demonstrations and made 24 arrests in New Heraklion and Galatsi, at 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. respectively.
Members of Ilias Kasidiaris’ party, convicted in the Golden Dawn trial, held a demonstration that had been announced on the occasion of the seven years since the murder of “Golden Dawn” members Georgios Foundoulis and Manolis Kapelonis in New Heraklion.
They reached the New Heraklion cemetery, where the police forces intervened and disbanded them, proceeding with 10 arrests. A little later, members of the collective “Nea Ionia / Heraklion Anti-Authoritarian / Anti-Fascist Assembly” held a counter-meeting in the Agios Georgios square in Galatsi.
When police intervened to disperse the riots, tensions flared and 14 more arrests followed.
According to the complaints, the MAT men even entered a cafe in the Galatsi area, throwing tear gas and hitting unsuspecting bystanders. At that time, according to the complaint, they beat him with a glop and a 5-year-old boy who was in the cafe with his parents. According to the same reports, four people were taken to the hospital with head injuries.
Ten members of Ilias Kasidiaris’s party were transferred to Northeast Attica Security and 14 anti-authoritarians to GADA. At 7:30 p.m., a group of anti-authoritarians, responding to a call for support to the accused, met in front of GADA, without incident.
SYRIZA is asking for answers from Chrysochoidis
The opposition’s reaction was expressed by the head of SYRIZA’s Civil Protection Department, Christos Spirtzis, in a statement.
“The violent action of the MAT on Sunday in Galatsi, even inside a cafeteria, shows the evolution of the undemocratic descent after the previous operation, in a corresponding store, where customers were treated as terrorists,” he said.
He asked the Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, to answer “if the reports of abuse of a five-year-old boy – and indeed with the use of a glop” are correct and “if the MAT forces tried in a cafeteria using products chemicals and using unprecedented violence. “
The head of the SYRIZA sector emphasizes that “it is inconceivable that where a citizen drinks his coffee, the MAT forces suddenly attack, in fact using so much violence that citizens and police are injured.” Among other things, it points out that “the political message of the Doctrine and Criticism doctrine and government orders have freed pockets of the extreme right within the police, thus leading the vast majority of Greek policemen who serve the Republic to the margin and reducing its mission to ensure the safety of the citizen “.
