Today’s decision by the British court is a blow to the reputation of the actor, who took the great risk of taking legal action against News Group Newspapers (NGN).
The trial took place in July, lasted three weeks, in the presence of ex-husbands and admirers on both sides, and led to revelations about the couple’s private lives that poured into the tabloid pages.
After a thorough examination of 14 incidents of violence reported by the Sun, the court ruled that the British tabloid description of Johnny Depp’s face was “essentially true.”
“Victims of domestic violence should never be forced to remain silent,” said a Sun spokesperson, thanking the president of the court and the actress for their courage in testifying in court.
“This decision, this verdict is not a surprise,” said the lawyers for the actress, who was a prosecution witness at the trial.
