Stronger new measures for Thessaloniki, including a traffic ban starting at 8 or 9 p.m. and a ban on travel outside the prefecture, Thessaloniki Mayor Konstantinos Zervas announced, speaking to SKAI and the TODAY program, while expressing the assessment that “we will not escape the universal blockade.”
It is observed that the number of new infections in Thessaloniki is still high, since 449 new cases were detected on Sunday, November 1, 839 on Saturday, October 31, and 530 cases on Friday, October 30, compared to 84 cases on October 26. In this context, the Ministry of Health has already activated an emergency plan in order to increase the capacity of the SNA to meet the growing needs of the region. Thus, 43 new ICU-COVID beds were secured in order to increase the capacity of the NSS in Thessaloniki.
More specifically, 8 ICU-COVID beds are added to the General Hospital “Agios Pavlos”, 10 beds to the General Hospital “G. Gennimatas”, 10 beds in PGNTH AHEPA, 4 beds in 424 Military Hospital, 6 beds in GNTH “G. Papanikolaou “and 5 beds at Halkidiki General Hospital.
“We are at war now and we have to see today how to deal with evil. The measures that have been taken take time until they begin to bear fruit, however, given the large number of cases, we will have to take even stricter measures. I have already suggested a traffic ban earlier at 8-9pm, but also a travel ban in and out of the prefecture. It is not a universal blockade, retail will be open, services will be open, SMS will not be required for traffic, ”Mr. Zervas told SKAI.
He added that the objective is to avoid the closure of the beach, while wanting to describe the overcrowding phenomena that occur every night in the squares and outdoors, he pointed out that “every day we collect 3-4 times more garbage in the public areas”.
