Koronaios: “Pagomara” of the explosion of cases – What will happen to the focus and travel ban?

The corona virus is galloping in Greece and is breaking records one after another. October is the most catastrophic month for the evolution of the pandemic in our country with the number of cases exceeding all the previous ones – 1,690 – and the number of intubated to 124.

At the same time, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will announce measures to stop the coronavirus pandemic.

The new package of measures that will follow the Prime Minister’s message to the Greek people is expected to include, on the one hand, new provisions to restrict sectors of economic activity for public health reasons and, on the other, a series of compensatory measures to support individual sectors of the economy and especially to work, as previously announced. yesterday the government representative, Stelios Petsas.

The coronavirus puts pressure on the health system

The pressure on health structures is reflected in epidemiological data in recent days.

The 408 cases confirmed on October 14 doubled to 882 cases on October 23 and continued with the same exponential increase in the following days, reaching 1,690 cases yesterday.

A similar move is reflected in the flow of seriously ill patients to hospitals. In the middle of the month, 715 people were hospitalized with Covid-19 infection and its complications, of which 86 were intubated.

On October 23, the number of patients was 770 with 88 intubated. Last night the number of hospitalized patients was 1,103, the number of intubated patients being 132. That is, in seven days the number of intubated patients increased by 40%.

However, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treated at least 151 patients yesterday, including intubated ones. According to data from the Ministry of Health, the ICUs available nationwide are 974 and of these 288 have become ICU – covid-19. As a result, more than half of the Covid-19 ICU beds in the country are occupied, a drawback given that the epidemic wave is moving upward and constantly leaving patients behind.

Vatopoulos: The central idea of the measures is the interruption of the chain of transmission of the coronavirus

Alkis Vatopoulos, a professor of microbiology at the University of West Attica, spoke on the “MEGA Weekend” show about the course of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Mr. Vatopoulos, since the disease is unpredictable and very easily transmitted, its epidemiology is unpredictable. The population does not have antibodies, making it vulnerable, he said.

“The epidemic, if left unchecked, could take on explosive proportions, sending the number of cases to new heights,” he said.

Regarding the measures, he argued that the central idea is to stop the transmission chain and he does not see alternatives on how to do it.

He stressed that the main source of transmission of the virus is where everyone has the opportunity to come into contact with droplets emitted by another person, where, that is, there is congestion and especially where a mask is not used.

It is logical, he argued, to stop unnecessary meetings, as in entertainment.

The government is expected to take support measures for the affected sectors.

Finally, he stressed that people must adopt the new behavior.

Hexagon: the second wave can be more lethal than the first

The situation with the outbreak of coronavirus cases in our country last week is out of control.

With Thessaloniki on red alert for a second twenty-four hours.

“The evidence shows that we are in the second wave, which is perhaps more deadly than the first, as happened in the pandemic 100 years ago,” said the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association, Thanassis Exadaktylos.

As Mr. Exadaktylos said, the number of cases also results from the increase in the number of tests, while when asked how many unrecorded cases are possible, he replied “multiple, we don’t know for sure how many”. Regarding the situation in Thessaloniki, he commented that “in the coming days we will see higher numbers in Thessaloniki and then due to the measures we will see a de-escalation”.

Experts say dispersion in focus is important and Mr. Exadaktylos, speaking at the Open, noted: “Focus has been found to play an important role because measures are systematically circumvented. In some areas they don’t wear a mask.”
