The image of the attack on the rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business has provoked strong reactions.
Assuming responsibility for the attack, the “Solidarity Struggle Initiative” posted a photo of the Rector on a popular website of the anti-authoritarian space, with a plaque hanging from his neck with the message “Solidarity in squatting” causing commotion.
“Greece is shaking. Since the reprimand of a rector and the publication of a photo, which shows it below with an inscription in the form of a rope that spoils the word solidarity.
“The Hitlerites hung up posters about the Jews and the guerrillas,” Civil Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said in a statement.
“Democrats are outraged. Those who tolerate them, those who tolerate them, it’s time to reconsider and get angry.
The perpetrators will be prosecuted. The answer is unique. “As with the Golden Dawn, fascism will not pass,” Chrysochoidis added.
The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, also intervened in the matter and, among other things, called on all parties to condemn the harassment of the rector.
“The image of the rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business that was unveiled today of the hooded invasion of his office is appalling.
Our Government restored asylum in its true sense, foreseeing the ex officio intervention of the authorities for each criminal act that occurs at the University.
And the law will continue to apply until the last fascist groups are expelled from our Universities ”.
Those who think, he added, that harassment, fascism and violence will terrorize academic space and go unpunished, are bitterly mistaken.
And those in the academic sphere who are tolerant in the violation of university asylum and the violation of academic freedom, must assume their responsibilities.
We call on all parties to condemn the rector’s blasphemies. The Greek police will do their duty so that those responsible are brought to justice.
Our non-negotiable objective, free, safe, modern, extroverted universities, away from morbid phenomena that have no place in academia ”.
