Samos: Much of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary collapsed

Eight people were injured in Samos due to the strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean.

Four injured are being treated at the Samos hospital and 4 more at the Karlovasi Health Center. Their injuries are orthopedic and their lives are not in danger.

Hospitals, Health Centers and EKAB in Samos and Ikaria have already been put on high alert, says Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias in his tweet, adding: Rescuers from the EKAB Special Department of Disaster Medicine and the commander of the 2nd. Christos Roilos.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the Samos airport reopened. Infrastructure Secretary-General George Karagiannis is also heading to the area with a group of engineers.

Much of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Karlovasi collapsed due to the strong earthquake. It is one of the largest temples in the Balkans.

According to SKAI journalist Giorgos Avtias, most of the houses that collapsed on the island are old and abandoned in Pythagorion, Karlovasi and the capital. The first attempts are made to record the damage.
