The Infectious Diseases Committee is expected today to suggest the implementation of a lockdown in Thessaloniki for Thessaloniki after the sad new record of coronavirus cases.
The infectious disease specialists, in an extraordinary meeting yesterday that is expected to continue this morning, examined the latest data after the 1,547 cases diagnosed in the previous 24 hours and will propose concrete measures to the Prime Minister, with Thessaloniki in the spotlight, after the rapid increase presented in cases, with 384 only yesterday.
What measures do infectious disease specialists consider?
One of these measures, according to Professor Charalambos Gogos, is the restriction of travel from Prefecture to Prefecture, for those who are on “orange” and of course “red” alarm.

The infectious disease professor, speaking with SKAI, said that most of the measures discussed by infectious disease specialists are “complementary” to measures that already exist, but in a stricter context. Among other things, he pointed out that if the measurements and distances in the restaurant are observed, its opening hours may not be required.
According to ERT, the measures proposed by the experts, in addition to the blockade in Thessaloniki, are the following:
- The ban on driving outside the prefecture and in the “orange” areas, something that is already happening in the “red” ones.
- Wear a mask everywhere and in the “yellow” areas.
- In the dining area, consideration is given to having everyone wear masks at the table, except for food only.
- Recommendations for music that the lower they are, the less they are forced to speak louder, since it has been shown that a minute of loud speech can produce more than 1,000 aerosols.
The table has also mentioned the recent period and the possibility of closing the restaurant earlier (at 9 instead of midnight), a measure that for the moment, according to statements by A. Georgiadis, does not seem to be imposed.
