Parliament: Staikoura’s motion of no confidence was rejected with 158 “no”

The motion of no confidence against the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, presented by Alexis Tsipras and the deputies of SYRIZA-PS, was voted against in the plenary session of Parliament. Out of 291 voters, the motion of no confidence was voted against by the entire ND parliamentary group (158), while 133 deputies from SYRIZA-PS, the Movement for Change, the KKE and the Hellenic Solution voted in favor. The 9 MERA deputies25 abstained.

According to the data presented by the Speaker of Parliament, K. Tassoulas, the three-day session lasted a total of 35 hours, which was the longest discussion time in history, a motion of no confidence against a minister or government. A total of 141 deputies, 24 ministers, a former president of a parliamentary group (Al. Papariga, KKE), a former president of Parliament (N. Voutsis) and six parliamentary party representatives spoke.

In the two previous debates on the motion of no confidence in ministers, in 1991 the meetings lasted 19 hours with 46 speakers, and in 2001, 18 hours with 53 speakers.

The data, Mr. Tassoulas noted, show that despite the restrictions, the discussion was extensive and extensive to an “unmatched extent.”

Finally, it should be noted that today’s vote was carried out in the physical presence of only 60 deputies -for health measures- while the other deputies participated by letter sent to the presidium of Parliament and were counted in the vote count.-
