The immediate reaction of the Vice President of the Commission-Commissioner Margaritis Schoinas was provoked by the post on Twitter by Erdogan’s communicator, Fahrettin Altun, who accuses Europe of disrespecting European leaders of Muslims in their way of life.
“Some European leaders today are not only targeting Muslims. They are attacking our sacred values, our scripture, our prophet and our political leaders, our way of life,” wrote Fahrettin Altun upon receiving the response from the Vice President of the Commission, Margariti Schoinas.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but this is our way of life, as defined by our Treaty. The European way of life”, Mr Schinas also wrote, citing the provision of the EU Treaty on the basic values that govern the European way of life.
Previously, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, described Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s comments against his French counterpart Emanuel Macron are “unacceptable.”
In a post on Twitter, the head of European diplomacy opposed the Turkish president.
“The Turkish president’s statements about French President Macron are unacceptable. We call on Turkey to stop this dangerous confrontation“, He wrote.
“The European Council conclusions contain a real offer for the resumption of our relationship, but the political will of the Turkish authorities is required for this positive agenda.” Otherwise, Turkey will be even more isolated, “he wrote shortly afterwards.
