On Sunday morning, Nikos Belogiannis died after being treated in an intensive care unit. He was the son of Nikos Belogiannis and Elli Pappas.
He was born in prison in August 1951, while his mother was a political prisoner. In March 1952, his father was convicted by a military court and executed, while his mother was released in 1964. He grew up in the family of his aunt, Didos Sotiriou.
N. Belogiannis was a graduate of the NTUA School of Chemical Engineering and worked on the restoration works of the Acropolis and other services of the Ministry of Culture. For many years and until his retirement, he was head of the Stone Center (a unit of the Ministry of Culture) and mercilessly crossed Greece from one extreme to the other to “cure” monuments. He collaborated with “Eleftherotypia” and Fragilemag, writing texts that “linked” the present, Greek and international, with History, and in which his erudition, humor, intelligence and humanism stood out. At the same time, since the dawn of the 21st century, he became involved in the work of his parents, as well as his aunt, Didos Sotiriou, through reprints, publications, editions and events.
He wrote the books: “Stalinism: The Fourth Monotheistic Religion” (Agra publications, 2012, with Angeliki Kotti) and “So this is Alexander’s news. Snapshots from the era of the right and left memorandum” (Agra Publications, 2016 With written instructions, he instructed his friends to cremate his body, clearly indicating that he did not want to precede or follow any ceremony.
