Erdogan’s incendiary statements
The reason for the Paris move, reflecting the bad relationship between the two countries, was Erdogan’s statements, who commented that Macron needs “psychiatric treatment” due to his hostility towards Islam.
Speaking at a ruling party congress, Erdogan said:
“What can be said of a country leader who behaves in this way with millions of his citizens who belong to a different religion? “First, you need to control your mental state,” he said, according to Anadolu.

Paris’s response
Paris lifted his gauntlet and noted “the absence of messages of condolence and messages of support from the President of Turkey after the assassination of Samuel Patti.”
The Elysee also pointed to “very offensive statements by Recep Tayyip Erdogan in recent days, especially the call to boycott French products.”
The French presidency reiterated its call for “Turkey to end its dangerous adventures in the Mediterranean and the region” and denounced the “irresponsible behavior” of Ankara in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Claims have been made. Erdogan has two months to respond. Action should be taken by the end of the year,” the Elysee also said about the Eastern Mediterranean.
