James the brother god
James (… – 62) was an important figure in the time of the apostles. He is also called Santiago el Justo and Santiago el Hermano Dios. According to the Orthodox Church, he is believed to have been a half-brother of Jesus Christ from Joseph’s previous marriage. In Roman Catholic tradition it is generally identified with Santiago, son of Alpheus, and Santiago the Younger. Most agree that it should not be confused with the Apostle James.
James had not followed Jesus during his teaching. However, after his resurrection, Jesus also appeared to him, leading him to believe and later to play an important role in the consolidation of the first apostolic church in Jerusalem. (1 Corinthians 15: 7; Acts 15: 6-29; Galatians 2: 9). According to the historian Josephus, he was stoned by the Jews in 62 AD According to another version, he was killed after being thrown from a temple where he was preaching. The “letter from Santiago” to the 12 scattered tribes is attributed to this Santiago.
His memory is celebrated by the Lutheran, Episcopal and Eastern Orthodox Churches on October 23, by the Anglican on May 1 and by the Catholic on May 3.
