Emanuel Macron continues his diplomatic efforts to end the fire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The French president welcomed his Armenian counterpart, Armen Sarkisian, after having previously spoken by phone with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nicole Pasinian, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
On Wednesday, Armenia ruled out “any diplomatic solution” with Azerbaijan, amid unsuccessful international efforts by the international community to negotiate a lasting ceasefire.

On October 17, Macron participated in the mediation effort carried out by the Minsk Group (France, Russia, USA), which led to the promise of a ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but which was very quickly violated . Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin estimated the death toll in clashes between Azeris and Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh to be “close to 5,000”.
