Koronaios: hospitals are full, NSS is under pressure

The health system of the basin and the region is under great pressure, as the rapid increase in cases multiplies hospital admissions and intubation in intensive care units.

The health system is under pressure

Hospitalizations at the NSS are on the rise due to the coronavirus. On Monday alone, 781 patients were hospitalized, 99 of them in Intensive Care Units.

In Sotiria, of the 29 intensive care beds for Covid-19, no more than 3 are left empty on a daily basis.

In Attica, where 60-70% of cases have been hospitalized so far, 76 of the 132 intensive care beds for Covid-19 are already occupied.

However, in recent days when the pandemic is spreading across the country, hospitals in the region, such as Ioannina and Kozani, are also under increasing pressure.

What experts fear is the gradual shift in cases to older ages, as the elderly become more seriously ill and require much more frequent hospitalization in special units.

After all, starting next month the healthcare system will be faced with flu and seasonal viruses.

The NSS is “protected”

To decongest the hospitals, the Ministry of Health immediately opens 50 new intensive care beds and extends the contracts of auxiliary personnel that have expired for one more year.

At the same time, it bombs 141 health centers and 42 regional clinics in the fight against the coronavirus.

Experts estimate that the situation is currently manageable. However, the constant high number of cases in Attica, combined with the appearance of new outbreaks in many parts of the country and the imminent arrival of winter, makes the creation of new beds imperative.
