The causes, for which we see an increase in cases, despite the implementation of measures, were mentioned by the professor of Health Policy at the London School of Economics, Elias Mosialos.
According to Mosialos, the much more regular social gatherings but also the greater relaxation of the people, compared to previous months, is a cause of the phenomenon.
“Certainly one did not expect to see many cases during the lockdown period and after that,” said the professor, explaining that during that period the activity and levels of the virus were considerably reduced within Greek territory.
“It was expected that from July we would start to see an increase in cases,” he said, adding, however, that we now realize that there are more cases and that there is much more evidence than in March and April.
“When you do more tests, you are more likely to see more cases,” he said, noting that an additional reason for seeing more cases is that they are not necessarily reported based on the day the tests are done.
In any case, the professor confirmed that coronavirus cases are on the rise and stressed that people belonging to vulnerable groups should be especially careful.
They have to be tested even every week.
The main objective of Mr. Mosialos is, in the near future, to stop the dispersal indoors and based on the above, he affirms that workers and people living indoors, for example, nursing homes, prisons, immigrant structures should be subjected coronavirus-proof even every week.
“In fact, we are entering a critical inflection point and things are getting a bit worse,” admitted the professor, however, comparing that the situation in Greece is much better than abroad, where the incidence is five to seven times greater.
“If we apply coronavirus protection measures reverently (keeping our distance, wearing a mask and being careful indoors and outdoors when necessary) we will not have to go to Ireland or Wales in the near future,” he said. to “take all our measures” not to reach such a point since in any case in Greece we have as an ally the climate and especially the mild winters.
