By your decision Ministry of Education are recruited 2,380 primary and secondary teachers general education and special education and training in fixed-term contracts to meet new temporary needs related to the prevention of COVID-19, reaching a total of 49,214 appointments and contracts to date, much more than in all recent years.
The specific attention of the Ministry was reflected in law 4722/2020, which foresees the additional hiring of contracted teachers for cases where your colleagues are unable to provide teaching or support work for a living, but only remotely for COVID-19 related reasons. At the same time, additional measures are taken regarding the operation of school units for the prevention of COVID-19, for the implementation of which requires the hiring of temporary substitutes, such as the continuous expansion of the operation of the full-time school. Hired teachers also meet the needs of elementary and middle school students who, for COVID-19 related reasons, are unable to attend the lifelong learning process.
Niki Kerameos stated:
“Our objective, both through this initiative and other measures in the same direction, is the protection of the educational community. No student should be left behind, that is why distance education is offered for students belonging to high-risk groups. And we must also protect our teachers who belong to these high risk groups by providing their replacement for lifelong learning and their provision of distance education only. I would like to thank and warmly congratulate our students, our teachers, our staff for the excellent observance of protective and preventive measures. We monitor the evolution of the pandemic day by day and adapt to new data. “Together we will overcome this difficulty.”
