Bars in the House of Commons building complex will be banned from selling alcohol from Saturday in a reflection of the stricter restrictions in place across the UK to deal with COVID-19.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lindsay Hoyle, has said that it will no longer be possible to buy spirits in the British Parliament building after the government closed pubs in the northern England city of Liverpool as part of a step-by-step approach to limit the growth of new coronavirus cases.

“As Members of Parliament represent different constituencies, which have been established at different levels, with the highest level ordering the closure of pubs, I have decided to stop selling alcohol throughout the House of Commons building as of this Saturday”. Hoyle said in a statement.
Most MEPs returned to Parliament after the first lockdown, but social distance rules limit the number of MEPs who can enter the Chamber at the same time.
Many have criticized the government for applying different rules in an effort to stem a second wave of infections.
