The US secretary of state said Thursday that Turkey’s involvement in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has increased risk in the region and reiterated his call for a diplomatic solution.
“Now we have the Turks, who have intervened and provided resources in Azerbaijan, increasing the risk, increasing the firepower that takes place in this historic (long-term) conflict,” Pompeo said. WSB Atlanta.
“The resolution of this conflict must be through negotiations and peaceful talks, not through an armed conflict, and certainly not through third countries that come to lend their firepower to what is already a situation of gunpowder” Pompeo said.

On Thursday, hopes for a humanitarian ceasefire appeared to fade as the death toll rose and Armenia and Azerbaijan blamed each other for further attacks.
“We hope that the Armenians can defend themselves from what the Azeris are doing, and that before this happens, everyone will achieve a ceasefire and then sit together at the table and try to solve it,” he added.
