Five ships constantly accompany the research vessel Oruts Reyes on its voyage through the Eastern Mediterranean. The course and speed of the ship are consistent with the laying of cables, however, warships are at a distance of a few hundred meters, with their engines operating which makes it very difficult for sound engineers.
Turks always have one around Oruts Reyes frigate and four smaller corvettes. The frigate is usually the MEKO class or the Perry class. The Perries are in their 40s, the age of Greek frigates. MEKO, a class that we also have, is a bit younger. There are also four BURAK or ADA class corvettes that are interchangeable.
The ADAs are new and we don’t see them often. We see the BURAKs that are half a century old, with little potential, as they are flagged, but cannot face anything on the high seas, as they are old ships with rudimentary weapons that do not even have the ability to defend themselves.
However, as noted by SKAI journalist Giannis Paliouras, Greece has limited possibilities to intervene on the high seas in accordance with international law. You can control a research ship, unarmed, essentially political (not consensual) with inflatables with port frogmen (security corps, not military).
In essence, Turkish warships do not provide safety in the event of a collision, but protect Oruts Reyes from being attacked.
Turkish disease
It is noted that during 36 days in the August crisis, the Turks were unable to locate a single Greek submarine, something that was confirmed by Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos.
What is not known is that when all the Turkish submarines took up positions in the operational areas they were located, and at any moment the Greek forces had knowledge that everyone was in. In fact, we had taken a very important factor out of the equation of a possible conflict, while the Turks had it in the neck!
