Koronaios: “nursing homes” strike again: ICUs on the edge of Attica “seriously ill”

Although the course and preferences of the coronavirus in large cities, configurations of all kinds and closed centers (such as nursing homes), the frantic course of the second wave has not yet stopped in our country despite the current restrictive measures . As a result, the cases are more than 400 and the victims, especially the elderly, are 5 to 7 per day.

There are currently 5,472 active cases in the country. However, the actual number of cases, including asymptomatic ones, may be four times as high as 10,000 to 20,000, according to Professor Athena Linou. Therefore, the mask is necessary everywhere, especially in areas where overcrowding is inevitable, such as the capital, while dispersion continues in Ioannina, Kozani and Kastoria.

On Wednesday, Attica again collected nearly half (201) of the 436 reported cases. The ICUs of Attica hospitals are at their limit, since the empty beds are daily from 25 to 30, according to POEDIN. The problem with Attica’s Covid-19 ICU was also admitted by Charalambos Gogos, professor of pathology and infectious diseases at the University of Patras and part of the committee of specialists in infectious diseases, who characteristically said: “The problem remains in Athens that needs rapid development of new beds. “

As POEDIN president Michalis Giannakos complains, cases are already being selected for ICUs, and the seasonal flu has not yet started. The victims of this “policy” are usually the elderly, the most vulnerable to the coronavirus.

These people are not safe even in nursing homes which, as in other countries, are a sanitary “bomb” of the coronavirus. The virus found a way to “pierce” again in the Agios Panteleimon nursing home, which had been in the news two weeks ago. Cases have been identified in two other CFIs in Metaxourgeio and Ioannina.

Nursing homes again in the vortex of the pandemic

A new coronavirus outbreak was detected in the Zosimades Nursing Home in the Holy Metropolis of Ioannina, which was quarantined for 10 days.

According to epiruspost.gr, a total of seven elderly people in the nursing home have been transferred to the Infectious Diseases Unit of the University Hospital for having tested positive for the coronavirus.

At the same time, the information reporting a resurgence of the coronavirus in the Agios Panteleimon nursing home, where at least 45 cases were identified at the beginning of the month, is worrying.

Four people from the nursing home tested positive for the virus and were transferred to four hospitals in Attica. According to the information, along with today’s cases, the nursing home in Agios Panteleimon has 52 seniors and 5 employees who have tested positive for Covid-19.

Finally, the alarm has sounded in a Metaxourgeio nursing home, in the center of Athens, as an 87-year-old woman who is housed in it was unwell and was transported by EKAB ambulance to the “Evangelismos” hospital on Monday.

The elderly woman underwent a coronavirus test and came back positive. The 87-year-old woman is being treated at the hospital’s Covid-19 clinic, while her condition worsens.

The nursing home employs a total of 20 nurses and accommodates 50 seniors, while on-site monitoring and testing by EODY is in progress.
