“We need direct talks despite provocation from Turkey,” the German foreign minister said. Haiko maas in a post on the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Very open and friendly talks with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on the difficult situation in the eastern Mediterranean. One thing is clear: we need direct talks despite provocation from Turkey,” the publication says, which is accompanied by photos of Mr. Maas with Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Dendias.

Earlier, another German Foreign Ministry publication from Cyprus stated:

“Oruc Reis’s mission in disputed areas in the eastern Mediterranean is the opposite of confidence-building measures.” Any new gas exploration would represent a major setback for the reduction and further development of EU-Turkey relations, as agreed at the last European Council. The search for solutions to the difficult situation in the eastern Mediterranean can only be achieved through direct dialogue between the parties involved. I welcome the open willingness of Cyprus to continue the dialogue effort. “I know the situation is very difficult at the moment.”
