Weather: The emergency bulletin issued by EMY is current
Strong storms affect the Ionian Islands and Western Greece during the afternoon hours of Monday 12/10.
Several areas of Corfu, mainly in the center of the island and the roads have already been flooded, according to corfutvnews.gr.
Indicative of the intensity of the phenomena is the fact that the peaks of the storm clouds exceed 12 kilometers, as seen in red in the satellite image below.
EMY’s climate deterioration emergency bulletin is current:
From Monday afternoon (10-12-2020) to Tuesday afternoon (10-13-2020), heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in the country from the west that will be accompanied by hail and stormy winds from the south of 7 to 8 Beaufort, which on Tuesday will reach the North Aegean until 9 Beaufort.
In more detail it will be affected:
1. From Monday afternoon hours to Tuesday morning hours (10-13-2020), the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Western Macedonia, Western Sterea and Western Peloponnese.
2. From the hours of Monday afternoon, the rest of the Peloponnese and Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly and the Sporades, weakening from the hours before noon on Tuesday and from the west.
3. From Monday night to Tuesday morning, temporarily east of Sterea and Evia.
4. From morning until Tuesday afternoon, the islands of the eastern Aegean.
Detailed weather on Tuesday according to EMY:
Bad weather until late afternoon, with heavy rains and thunderstorms across most of the country, while there will be hail.
Winds will blow in the south southwest from 6 to 8 Beaufort, weakening rapidly and turning to the west. In the east will blow winds from the south of 6 to 8 and in the north of the Aegean temporarily 9 from Beaufort, which will gradually turn to the west southwest and weaken.
The temperature will drop to its maximum values in
west, center and north.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms in strong places. From the hours before noon and from the west, the effects will gradually weaken and at night the weather will improve.
Winds: South 6 to 8 and in Thracian probably locally 9 Beaufort. Gradually, from the west, they will turn to the southwest and weaken.
Temperature: 12 to 23 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia 3 to 5 points less.
IONIC ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN STEREA, WESTERN PELOPONESE
Weather: Heavy rains and thunderstorms in some places until the morning and gradual improvement.
Winds: Southwest 6 to 8 Beaufort and from the hours before noon 5 to 7 with gradual weakening.
Temperature: 13 to 22 degrees Celsius. In Epirus 2 to 4 points less.
THESALIA, EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONÉS
Climate: Cloudy with local rains and thunderstorms. The effects will be strong in some places until the morning, but then they will weaken and in the afternoon the weather will improve.
Winds: South 6 to 8 Beaufort, will turn rapidly west southwest 6 to 7 Beaufort and gradually weaken.
Temperature: 12 to 25 degrees Celsius. In the north the maximum is 2 to 3 degrees lower.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Climate: Temporarily cloudy skies, with temporary local rains and sporadic thunderstorms until the afternoon.
Winds: South 6 to 8 Beaufort, gradually from the west it will deviate towards the west southwest and from the afternoon it will weaken.
Temperature: 18 to 27 degrees Celsius.
EASTERN EEGEUS ISLANDS, DODECANESE
Weather: Cloudy with local rains that will intensify rapidly and storms will occur. The effects into the afternoon in the eastern Aegean islands will be strong in some places.
Winds: South southeast 6 to 7 and in the local north 8 and temporarily until 9 Beaufort. In the afternoon they will turn from west to southwest and weaken.
Temperature: 19 to 28 degrees Celsius. North at 25 degrees Celsius.
ATTICA
Weather: Cloudy with rain and temporarily strong thunderstorms in some places. Soon the effects will weaken and from midday the weather will improve.
Winds: South southeast 6 to 8 beauforts, will turn rapidly west southwest 5 to 7 beauforts and gradually weaken.
Temperature: 15 to 24 degrees Celsius.
THESSALONIKI
Climate: Cloudy with rains and thunderstorms in strong places mainly until the morning hours. Then gradually the weather will improve.
Winds: South 6 to 7 Beaufort, will gradually turn to the west southwest and weaken.
Temperature: 15 to 23 degrees Celsius.
