A 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at 3:30 am 49 km north-northeast of Sitia.

The focal depth according to the Geodynamic Institute of Athens was 21.3 km. The magnitude of the earthquake is agreed by the Euro-Mediterranean Institute, according to which the intensity is 5.1 Richter. The strong seismic vibration was felt in many areas of Crete.

Shortly after, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.4 followed 47 km northeast of Sitia.

Shortly before 4 a.m., a third earthquake of 3.3 Richter 39 km followed north-northeast of Sitia, the vibrations continued at the same point.
