Numerous incidents with barricades, fires, injuries and arrests occurred on Friday during rallies organized by gypsies in various parts of the country, to protest the death of an 18-year-old youth last Monday in Piperitsa, Messinia.
It is estimated that the events triggered a false report on social networks, that the 64-year-old man who shot and killed the young man after a robbery at his home was released.
Following the incidents in Attica, three police officers were injured and nine Roma were arrested.
For three hours, the Patras-Corinto National Highway remained closed in both streams, generating queues of many kilometers.
In Aspropyrgos, a group of protesters blocked both streams of traffic on NATO avenue.
In several cases, the intervention of the Fire Brigade was necessary to clean the roads of burned tires and objects, so that they could be safely delivered to traffic.
