Tensions flared for quite some time on Friday afternoon in front of the Ministry of Education, where students, teachers and parents hold a protest rally.
Around 40 people started throwing rocks and flares inside the ministry. The rest of the crowd, which is massive, immediately turned on these people and yelled at them to leave because they were destroying the protest.
The reactions to the people who started the episodes are intense on the part of students and teachers, while they constantly try to get them out since they emphasize that “Kerameans must listen to our requests”
Student demands are to form small groups of students, hire teachers and cleaning staff.
The student and educational community is calling for improved protection measures against the coronavirus in schools, but the Minister of Education remains firm in adopting additional measures.
Kerameos is immovable
Niki Kerameos showed no substance for a substantive discussion with the OLME delegation that visited his office on Thursday.
The Education Minister insisted on her arguments and refused not only to satisfy but also to discuss in depth the demands of the union body of secondary school teachers.
In fact, on the issue of days and the request to reduce the number of students per class, he stressed that “those who say that distances are the most effective measure are wrong. The mask is the most effective measure and that’s where we do our duty! “
The minister was also inflexible on the issue of electronic voting in the elections and stressed that “those who refuse to participate in this type of voting will have shown that they are still attached to the past.”
OLME decided to participate in the student rally on Friday and is then expected to determine its further stance.
