The strong contrast of United States in the eventual activation of S-400 since Turkey expresses the State Department.
Responding to a question from ERT’s Washington correspondent, a spokesperson for the US State Department said the issue continues to weigh on US-Turkey relations and the NATO, remembering that CAATSA sanctions remain on the table.
«We are aware of the information (about the transfer of part of the S-400 matrix to Sinope in the Black Sea for the first tests next week). We continue to strongly disagree with the purchase of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missiles from Turkey and are deeply concerned by reports that Turkey is continuing its efforts to deploy S-400.Said the spokesman for the US State Department, adding:
«The expulsion of Turkey from the F-35 program, in response to the S-400 market, noted the seriousness with which the US government is addressing this issue. We continue to emphasize at the highest possible levels that the S-400 market remains a major obstacle to bilateral relations and NATO, while creating the risk of possible sanctions under CAATSA. We are confident that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his senior officials understand our position.».
