The situation in Messinia remains critical, following the death of an 18-year-old Roma at the hands of a 63-year-old in Piperitsa, Messina.
According to the police, the 63-year-old realized at noon yesterday that the 18-year-old and two other people had entered his house and the moment the three tried to leave, he fired with the shotgun, so the young lost his life.
Police arrested the 63-year-old and the two minors who were with the 18-year-old.
Family and friends of the victim set up barricades and lit bonfires on the 7th National Road Messini – Meligala, while in the local community there is fear of a possible vendetta. Already yesterday tension reigned outside the Kalamata hospital, where young Roma succumbed to his injuries. According to Tharros, on Monday afternoon, “the Roma gathered at the home of the unfortunate young man” broke into “shops in the area, causing damage to passing cars.”
Draconian security measures have been taken in the area. The entire Messinian police department has been mobilized, while police reinforcements from other areas of the Peloponnese and MAT squads from Athens have also targeted the area.
