The coronavirus continues its rapid spread in Greece, which plagues our country with hundreds of new cases every day. However, what worries the experts is the dispersion in Attica, since at the moment nothing seems capable of stopping the course of the deadly virus in the basin, with the figures causing terror.
September turns out to be a “black” month for the largest and most populated region of the country, since in 30 days a negative record was registered with more than 4,000 cases.
But it is not just Attica that is causing fear, as the terror of infections in nursing homes and nursing homes has returned.
On Wednesday afternoon the alarm sounded again in Athens, after at least 32 cases were detected in a nursing home in Agios Panteleimon. Indicative of how worrying the situation is is what the representative of the Ministry of Health for the coronavirus, Sotiris Tsiodras, said, who was immediately on the spot to assess the situation.
Mr Tsiodras, unable to hide his irritation at the situation in Athens, said that this is a situation that we do not want to see again and “sadly we see it again”. He added that “Thessaloniki has learned its lesson and is doing well, Athens is not doing well.”

Scientists are concerned and propose new measures
The situation in Attica and specifically in Athens does not go unnoticed by scientists. Everyone is now referring to new measures, most of them favoring the widespread use of a mask.
Specifically, in statements to MEGA, the specialist in infectious diseases and member of the committee for the coronavirus, Nikos Sypsas, stressed that “whatever they have to give, they probably have given it” and thus it is possible to proceed with new measures, not horizontally, but small interventions there that are needed “.
According to him, the main intervention should be carried out in the center of Athens, which is the great problem of the epidemic and should include exhaustive tests of the inhabitants of the area, follow-up, isolation of cases, creation of special hotels for positive cases and this will be the case. . reduce the problem to its source “.
“We all wear a mask when we approach other people,” he said, referring to wearing a protective mask.
“What is absolutely certain is that we have a wide distribution in the center of Athens. Especially in areas where we have a crowd of citizens and where 20 people sleep together in the same house. We have a large dispersion there. The dispersion is much greater than what we captured, so extensive testing is needed, “he explained.
The president of the Athens-Piraeus Hospital Physicians Association, Matina Pagoni, also addressed this issue through MEGA.
Ms. Pagoni defended the widespread use of the mask in Attica, saying that “it is the most basic and must be done now. I do not understand why it has not been implemented, it will save lives.
“If this measure is taken and a reassessment is done in 15 days and we have an increase in cases, an increase in intubation, an increase in deaths, an increase in hospitalizations, then the measures should be tougher,” he added.
For his part, the professor of microbiology, Alkiviadis Vatopoulos, also speaking with MEGA, referred to the widespread use of the mask in Attica.
“Wearing the mask is something extremely simple,” said Vatopoulos, when asked about measures against the spread of the coronavirus that may be necessary to stop the pandemic in Attica.
“It just came to our attention then. It has not been discussed yet. It is something that can be discussed tomorrow; after the day, the committee meets every day. The measures are decided by the government. There is usually a discussion. The government proposes some. measures and we agree or disagree, “he added.

New areas in the eye of the cyclone

In fact, it prompted the Ministry of Labor to send a strict recommendation to workers in the settlements of the Tebas municipality and the local unit of Loukisia in Evia prefecture, to stay at home and not go to work.
