The new minimum hourly wage in Geneva, Switzerland, is around 21 euros. However, the unions are convinced that with this money it is not possible to lead a decent life in the lake city of the same name. In Germany the minimum hourly wage is 9.35 euros.
The Swiss approved the new hourly wage in Sunday’s referendum. Thus, for full-time work with the usual 42 hours of work in Geneva, the gross monthly salary is now at a minimum of 3,800 euros.

However, the cost of living in Switzerland is also much higher than in Germany. This is especially true in Geneva, the European headquarters of the United Nations with its thousands of well-paid staff. Milk, bread, eggs, cheese, salads and beer are products whose prices are more than double those of Germany. Furthermore, there is a great personal involvement of the insured for visits to doctors and medicines.
The average monthly income in Switzerland is around 6,000 euros. Half of the wages in Switzerland are above and the other half below this amount.
