The Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias, and the president of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, made announcements about the flu vaccine.
The Minister of Health began his speech by saying that vaccination begins in our country, as every year, in mid-October, noting that our country has secured 4,200,000 influenza vaccines by 2020.
Strict observance of hygiene regulations.
The minister once again called for strict compliance with hygiene standards, such as the use of a mask and hand washing.
“More than any other year, we must all be serious,” he said, noting that the planet is also facing a coronavirus pandemic.
This year is special
The president of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, for her part, said that this year is special and that “the flu vaccination will be carried out in parallel with the development of the second wave of the epidemic.”
“There are different approaches to vaccination from one country to another and from one continent to another.” In our country, the priority is the highest risk groups, “he characteristically stated.
In fact, Ms. Theodoridou stressed that the electronic prescription applied this year will provide data on vaccination rates in our country, as well as on the groups that are vaccinated.
Vaccination and children
Regarding the vaccination of children, the president stressed that the same recommendations apply.
Specifically, children who are in high-risk groups should be vaccinated, as well as healthy children who have a baby younger than 6 months in their home or live with someone else who cannot be vaccinated.
“This year I think the vaccination will go very well. However, we must remember that the flu vaccine does not protect against Covid-19 infection, but only for a specific virus, the flu, “he concluded.
Kontozamanis: We will have a successful vaccination period
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Health, Vassilis Kontozamanis, stressed that this year clear instructions for flu vaccination have been given, while he concluded by saying “We are sure that we will have a successful vaccination period.”
The prescription has started
It should be noted that today, September 28, the electronic prescription of the influenza vaccine began, but it will begin to be administered on October 15, based on a decision of the Ministry of Health.
Flu vaccination, especially for vulnerable groups, is becoming more important this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
With medical prescription
It is recalled that this year, influenza vaccination will be carried out as a priority in vulnerable groups and individuals over 60 years of age.
With a circular, the Ministry of Health and for reasons of adequate planning and defense of Public Health announces the following:
1. Any prescription containing the influenza vaccine is issued strictly in accordance with the instructions of the National Vaccination Program and is compulsory electronic.
2. The handwritten prescription of influenza vaccines will only be carried out in the following cases:

- Citizens (tourists) of countries outside the European Union, as well as European citizens who are not holders of a TSE (European Health Card)
- Immigrants, who for various reasons have not obtained AMKA or the Insurance and Temporary Health Care Number for Foreigners (PAAPA)
In any case, the handwritten prescription will be registered in the electronic prescription system by the pharmacy where it is made, according to the instructions of IDIKA and will meet the same criteria that govern the electronic prescription of influenza vaccines.
