Professor Simos Simopoulos passed away

Emeritus professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering and former rector of the NTUA (period 2010-2014) Simos Simopoulos passed away. The Senate of the National Technical University of Athens expressed in a resolution its deep regret for the loss of “an important person and academic citizen.”

S. Simopoulos studied mechanical-electrical engineering at NTUA (1970) and did postgraduate studies at Imperial College London.

Among others, he was director of the Nuclear Technology Department of NTUA, vice president of the Hellenic Atomic Energy Committee, president and CEO of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) and president of all its subsidiaries (ETHEL, ILPAP, ISAP) Transportes and Communications, president of the Energy Regulatory Authority and Minister of Infrastructure, Transportation and Networks in the interim government of P. Pikrammenos.

The procession will take place on Monday 9/28/2020, at 1:00 p.m., from the Agios Theodoros church in the First Cemetery, in a very narrow circle due to the limitations of the pandemic.
