The dramatic intervention of Janet Tsipras, Alexis’s sister

Ms. Janet Tsipras is an elected member of the SYRIZA Central Committee. Therefore, she has every reason to take care of the internal affairs of the party, although I do not recall that she made any other public political intervention. She used to defend her family from some rather malicious rumors about her past. And she did well.

Yesterday, however, he intervened in the internal dispute of the party, supporting his brother, who seems to be unhappy with the criticism that Euclid Tsakalotos exercises him on a regular basis.

Ms. Janet Tsipras is not judged politically for her love for her younger brother. In the difficult times Alexis is going through, she needs all kinds of support.

She is judged, always politically, for the content of her statements. She said yesterday: “whoever does not agree with the SYRIZA line can resign.”

I’m sure you will come out and say that your statements were misinterpreted. It may have already done so, because for the radical left they are a return to its dark past, to its rotten belly, which at least a part wants to forget.

Until today, SYRIZA was distinguished by its internal party democracy. Of course, there were some exceptions when, for example, Alexis Tsipras forced the Central Committee to vote twice, because he did not like the result of the first vote.

Anyway, that was an exception.

The internal processes of the party were devastatingly long, a sign of the pluralism of opinions. Furthermore, if I remember correctly, to date no SYRIZA executive has been removed from office, not even those who openly abuse their political opponents. There is unlimited tolerance.

Suddenly, like a bull in a glass shop, the older sister “reserved” – the political leaders to care for her older sisters – and raised the issue of the members’ submission to the political line of the SYRIZA ruling group. In simple words, she demanded absolute silence from those who have a different opinion, on the penalty of resignation.

Let me remind you that the so-called Renovation Left fought for internal party democracy, which ultimately focuses on the free expression of all points of view inside and outside the party. For the Renewing Left, democratic centralism *, that is, the way in which Leninist parties functioned, was obsolete and the source of much suffering. In fact, it was one of the causes of the split of the KKE in 1968.

Let me remind you that the dogma of the orthodox KKE, expressed by party secretary Charilaos Florakis in 1976, was: “within our party, everyone can freely express their opinion, as long as it is correct.”

After 44 years, it seems that Ms Janet Tsipras wants to return to party orthodoxy. E. Tsakalotos can freely express her opinion, as long as she agrees with the party line, where Tsipras and her company are the party.

If SYRIZA distinguished itself by something positive, it was its internal partisan vitality, which was apparently conquered by its executives who came from the renewing left. The attempt to return to the dark days of “one point of view” will lead SYRIZA directly into the Stalinist past of its executives who come from communist orthodoxy.

* Democratic centralism means that there is internal party democracy, but only the dominant vision comes out. In communist practice, the “democratic” disappeared and the “centralism” remained.
