Military leadership demands an immediate increase in the length of military service to 12 months and the introduction of compulsory military service at 18 months.
This morning the first round of briefings by the Minister of Defense of the Permanent Commission of Foreign Relations and Defense of the Parliament took place.
Regarding military service, according to SKAI, the suggestions agreed to increase the service in 3 months in the Army, that is, to a total of 12 months.
However, the 12-month term will only apply to those who choose to serve in large urban centers. On the contrary, those who choose the border will serve a term of 9 months. This is the most common scenario of changes in tenure.
The government is expected to make final decisions on increasing military service in the coming days.
At the same time, the compulsory recruitment of young people at age 18, when they finish high school, is being considered, however this possibility has several problems, such as what will happen with the doctors, computer scientists, artisans that are necessary in every military unit.
Finally, the structure of the Armed Forces and specifically what armaments are needed for the next 15 years was discussed.
