The danger of overcrowding in public transport was mentioned by the professor of Pathology and member of the infectious diseases committee, Charalambos Gogos, who stressed that “people must be diluted” and that “now is an opportunity with the gradual journey”.

In his statements on Monday morning 9/21 on SKAI television, the professor pointed out that the health system in Attica is under pressure due to the number of hospitalized and mainly serious cases. As he explained, an important part of the free beds that exist for the coronavirus are covered.

At the same time, he pointed out the local Rt, in Athens it is at 1-1.1, however “you have to be careful because the Rt can escape and reach R0”.

The measures that have been taken at this time, according to Gogos, will bear fruit and the goal is to reduce the cases below 100 and the Rt index below 1 in the next 10 to 15 days.

Mr. Gogos ruled out the possibility of resetting the SMS as a restrictive measure and commented “we are already experiencing a slight crash.”

As for the “rapid tests”, he called them a “revolution” and expressed the opinion that they will help a lot in the control of the disease because they are fast, easy, simple and inexpensive. “The advantage is that in the hospital you have a quick diagnosis and you isolate the incident,” he added.

Regarding the vaccine, the professor replied that it will be available until spring, so that at least sensitive groups are covered. “If the effectiveness of the vaccine is around 60%, we will be satisfied,” he concluded.
