240 cases of coronavirus were reported in Greece yesterday, a significantly reduced number, but this does not change the overall picture that shows that we are in a second wave with a Covid-19 outbreak. The number of intubated patients has increased and the ICUs of the reference hospitals are being “pressured”, a fact that generates anxiety and concern in the authorities.
What the ages show
As can be seen in the age distribution of the confirmed cases, we have 909 minors with Covid-19 of which 508 are children. Among them is an intubated girl.
Regarding ages 18-39: According to the EODY report, we have 6,213 cases in this age category, which is more than any other. Of these, 3,540 are men and 2,663 women. There is only one intubated man in this age group. At 40-64 years we have 5206 cases and 20 intubated.

Of the 240 new cases yesterday, 42 are related to known outbreaks and 34 were detected after checks at the gates of the country. The total number of cases is 14,978
(daily variation + 1.6%), of which 55.7% men. There are 4 new deaths of COVID-19 patients, while since the beginning of the epidemic a total of 331 deaths have been recorded. The median age of the patients who died was 78 years. The number of patients treated by intubation is 65 (67.7% men).
Of the total of 14,978 cases, 2,576 (17.2%) are considered related to travel from abroad, 6297 (42.0%) are related to a known case and the rest are not related to travel or any other known case or they are still under investigation. The average age of the cases is 39 years (range 0 to 102 years), while the average age of death is 78 years (range 35 to 102 years).
New measures are coming
Attica is the red zone, with the most cases, while the most affected municipalities are Athens, Piraeus, Kifissia and Peristeri.
According to the new measures announced, as of Monday, September 21, winter cinemas will be closed and all concerts in open and closed spaces will be suspended. It is also forbidden to gather more than 9 people, indoors and outdoors. For religious ceremonies, the maximum will be 20 people. Also as of Monday, compulsory teleworking at 40% is introduced for public and private sector employees, as well as the gradual transition of civil servants to their jobs, at 07:00, 08:00, 09:00 the morning. Asymptomatic patients belonging to vulnerable populations such as migrants will from now on be transferred to quarantine hotels. Meanwhile, there is a strong recommendation to restrict travel to those over 65.
In fact, it continues, as if the uptrend continues, new measures will be announced in the coming days. The possibility of resetting the sms for traffic is now open, mainly for the elderly, while no one excludes the confinement, for a period of 15 days. In short, the government plans to escalate the bans and restrictions to avoid a second lockdown that will have incalculable consequences for the economy. After all, this is the main objective of almost all European governments, which are seeing a rapid outbreak of the second wave of the pandemic on the old continent.
65 of our fellow citizens are being treated by intubation. Their average age is 69 years. 21 (32.3%) are women and the rest are men. 86.2% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are 70 years or older. 177 patients have been discharged from the ICU.
