According to Wikipedia, stars are born in nebulae when an area collapses under their weight. SYRIZA may not be full of astronomy, but some words have a political meaning. Nebula, like political blur. Collapse, like a voting difficulty. In fact, such conditions always give rise to the need for stars.
In the video where the party announced the signal change, the real star was not the “s” and “y” lines. Another was the protagonist, the star of the party: its leader. He mobilized to present the new star of Syriza, sealing the way decisions will be made in the new era of SYRIZA.
For so long, Koumoundourou had been fighting under the guise of internal party democracy; in fact, Alexis Tsipras is supposed to have heard the criticism, which was evident from the people he chose in the internal shakeup. Not even ten days passed. When it was time to change the signal, there was no consultation with the institutions. There was an announcement. The party, then, went back to work as usual: fund for the star. Sometimes red, sometimes green, sometimes purple, but always in the background.
The motto, of course, was different. The new signal came to make SYRIZA more attractive, to renew it a bit with the start of the political season, especially after the “black August” during which executives fought publicly on the internet. It came at the right time, just before Tsipras goes up to Thessaloniki for the set speech and press conference. Justifying, a little, the change that unfolds every year before our eyes, each time the star of SYRIZA shines on Thermaikos. The words “Tsipras” and “TIF” carry (still, after so many years) associatively the “Thessaloniki program”. In what may never have been implemented, but it became a lever for SYRIZA to come to power. Since then, each year in the TIF symbolized a small change from the previous one.
It’s not bad that the parts (and the signals) change, they tell SYRIZA. This is what their leader said at the star’s introduction: “We are the product of evolution. A party that grew and matured taking the helm of the country in historical moments. A party that has never stopped transforming, learning, listening, understanding, thinking, changing.” The problem, of course, is not when the parts change, but when evolution arises only from the need to stay or return to power.
SYRIZA didn’t change because it wanted to. Now that he has been in the official opposition position for more than a year, his reactions are more reminiscent of 2012. Except for the moments when Tsipras addresses an international audience: there Prespes is still a strong newspaper and the former prime minister has the ability to describe the “left government” as something completely different from what it was.
Party signs, however, are for internal consumption. The new star that (according to Livaditis) “is for everyone”, is in fact not for anyone: many of the original Syrizans did not even understand why the old brand was a problem, many of the Pasokogens still today do not put anything above he. helium.
When politics can’t, communication takes over. Sometimes graphic design. A perfect circle would like this year SYRIZA, renewed and fresh, to present the “Thessaloniki 2.0 program” in the middle of a pandemic. Such a thing seems drawn to even the most fanatical of Syriza, as the party would officially return to the era of deception. The other option, the transformation that could be sealed in Thessaloniki, has been postponed for the moment.
What is left then? A child who counts the stars. It also has its audience.
