The strong storm that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Heraklion caused problems. Mediterranean Cyclone Ianos hit Crete with heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning strikes across the island.
Due to heavy rains, there was flooding in the center of Heraklion, where the Lions Square turned into a lake in no time.

The asphalt road in front of the Basilica of San Marcos became impassable for the few pedestrians who at the time of the peak of the phenomenon were in the center of the city, while the water invaded the interior of the shops in the area.
Dozens of lightning bolts struck Crete in the afternoon, turning night into day.
The roads to Finikia, Giofyro and the coastal avenue turned into rivers.
Severe traffic problems were caused by the strong storm in the areas of Giofyros and the coastal boulevard of Heraklion, while in Finikia, and especially at the height of Biologiko, where with the first rains the road turns into a river, the water reaches the hoods of the cars, with the drivers trying to turn around not to stop.

Flight problems
There were also problems with the flights, as a total of 7 flights that were scheduled to land at Heraklion airport, were forced to go to other airports, due to the prevailing weather conditions. In particular, two flights landed in Rhodes, another 2 in Chania and three in Athens.

Prolonged power outages
Bad weather caused problems in the electricity supply in many areas of Heraklion and mainly in the interior of the prefecture, where there have been prolonged power outages in the wider area of the municipalities of Archanes – Asterousia and Minoa Pediada.
Power outages and frequent power outages also occurred in the city of Heraklion, and HEDNO teams struggled to repair the damage.
