Janos: Alarm in Fthiotida – People trapped in houses and cars

Cyclone “Ianos” hit Fthiotida with particular severity, especially in the western areas of Lamia on the border with the municipality of Makrakomi and the Lamia – Karpenisi highway.

The fire brigade is running to various locations to release people who have been trapped on the road or in their homes due to flooded roads.

There are dozens of calls to “199” for the release of people from their homes at the beginning of Lianokladi, among which there are citizens with mobility problems. One of them will be treated by the EKAB at Lamia Hospital, since his house was flooded and rescued by firefighters. Others will be transferred to Lamia City Hall after their home was flooded.

Residents of Stirfaka face similar problems, where streams have even swept away the fences of houses and Zelefto. Also in Paliouri and Trilofo, firefighters intervened again to free the elderly.

In addition, dozens of people are trapped in cars on the Lamia – Karpenisi National Highway, the traffic of which has been stopped since 2:50 p.m. at the junction with Loutra Ypatis.

Vehicles have been stranded on the road both on the Loutra Ypatis road to the national network (the Mexiates road is also closed) and on the national road.

It is indicative that the waters of the torrents that flow into Sperchio, such as Grammenorema and the Stirfaka stream, have brought more than half a meter of water to the road.

With the exception of fire trucks and Civil Protection trucks, the passage of any other vehicle is prohibited.

Problems in the railway network Athens – Thessaloniki
