Koronovios: these are the new measures in Attica

On the afternoon of Tuesday 9/15, Nikos Hardalias, during the standard briefing of the Ministry of Health on the coronavirus, announced the new “package” of measures for Attica, following the suggestions of the Committee on Infectious Diseases.

The measurements for Attica from September 16 to 30 are as follows:

Coronavirus epidemic shows alarming signs of resistance

The epidemic shows signs of worrying resilience in the preventive measures that have been taken against the coronavirus, Majorkinis emphasized. The professor referred to a growing trend in the number of new cases, more than 300 per day, that are still present today.

Gikas Majorkinis particularly focused on the number of patients intubated in the ICU, which, as he said, shows increasing trends, without reversing, in recent weeks.

Attica presents disproportionate records of new coronavirus cases

Referring to Attica, where roughly 1/3 of the country’s total population lives, as you said, the Attica region shows disproportionate records for days. The greater intensity of the epidemic in Attica is compatible with the preference of the coronavirus to spread in urban centers, explained the professor.

Majorkinis cited examples from other large cities that showed particularly high cases, but also deaths from coronavirus.

As he said, Berlin, with a population similar to that of Attica, has registered more than 12,000 cases, New York 242,000 coronavirus infections, but also 24,000 deaths. Finally, London has so far registered 40,000 coronavirus cases and 7,000 deaths.

The main urban centers are the “Achilles heel” to face the pandemic

“Large urban centers are the ‘Achilles heel’ in dealing with the pandemic,” said Gikas Majorkinis, who announced new measures to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

He said the measures are aimed at reducing the amount of over-transmission between people who do not know each other. This, he said, also helps track the contacts of confirmed coronavirus cases.

Majorkinis: Let’s discuss the usefulness of vaccines.

Finally, referring to the vaccine front, Gikas Majorkinis pointed out that voluntary vaccinations in Oxford continue normally after the opinion of the competent committee, which ruled that the side effects (in a specific patient) are not related to the vaccine.

The EKPA professor pointed out that it is necessary to see the issue of public trust in vaccines in the coming days. A study in Europe, he said, shows a decline in public confidence in vaccines. “Let us all discuss the usefulness of vaccines together and I hope to have a fruitful dialogue,” he concluded.

It is highlighted that shortly before the start of the information from the Ministry of Health, EODY announced 310 new cases of coronavirus in our country in the last 24 hours. According to the announcement, 67 of our fellow citizens are being treated by intubation, while we have three more deaths recorded and 313 deaths in total in the country.

It should be noted that on Tuesday morning a meeting was held in the Palace of the Maxims for the final decisions to take action on the coronavirus in Athens. Yesterday, at the request of the Prime Minister, the list of measures proposed by specialists in infectious diseases to curb the second wave of coronavirus in Attica was delivered to the Palace of the Maxims.
