Negotiations between Greece and Turkey are expected to start in Berlin within ten days, according to the Turkish daily Milliet on its front page, titled “Diplomacy is our priority,” stating that the goal is for talks to be held first at a low level and then stop if necessary.
Ankara cleared the Germans that he does not want France to participate in the dialogue process.
According to diplomatic sources cited by the Turkish daily, Ankara does not view the start of the dialogue with Greece in a negative light, noting that negotiations are expected to start until the EU Summit on September 24-25.
The same sources report that Germany’s mediation efforts have recently increased, while in his contacts with France he asked not to further increase the tension. The goal of the Germans who continue their contacts with Ankara, according to Milliet’s diplomatic sources, is at first stage to hold meetings between Greece and Turkey at a low level and then, if necessary, at a high level.
Ankara reportedly replied that it does not view this process in a negative light, but said that “without challenges, we will come to the table to find a solution.” According to Milliet, Ankara, which is upset that France is “inflating the minds of Greece”, said that “they should come to the table” without prejudice and without conditions.
Ankara has even made it clear that France will not be part of the process and will not come to the negotiating table. Milliet reports that if the German efforts are successful, the negotiations will take place as before in Berlin.
